OFFICE ON WOMEN’S HEALTH

Talking Postpartum Depression

About 1 in 8 women report symptoms of postpartum depression (PPD) across the United States. That’s why the federal Office on Women’s Health needed a nationwide campaign to cut through the stigma of addressing PPD and encourage mothers to seek help.

With this subject matter, it was pivotal that the approach and execution be authentic.

As a mother myself, I understood that hearing about other people’s experiences helps us feel more connected and less alone. It can also change perceptions. The best way to motivate action from someone struggling is to hear from someone who went through it, too.

Five women from different parts of the U.S. gathered together to discuss their experiences with PPD.

Throughout the course of our one-day shoot, we captured our group discussion and five individual testimonials. In them, each woman told her story in her own words, addressing fears, hopes, struggles and lessons learned.

In addition to the videos, I created tip sheets and social media assets to drive viewers to online resources.
